Traffic safety vital for all, as Harrisonville remembers tragic death of high school freshman

Traffic safety vital for all, as Harrisonville remembers tragic death of high school freshman

As the weather warms up, we know there will be both more vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout Harrisonville.
We have partnered with the Harrisonville School District to encourage each member of our community to help reduce crashes & deaths related to driver & passenger behavior by reminding everyone to Buckle Up and put the Phone Down.

We know these reminders can at times seem boring and exaggerated, but our community has seen the impacts of distracted driving firsthand. Harrisonville High School freshman Corey Turner was tragically killed while walking home from school on August 23, 2016. This tragedy has affected the entire Harrisonville community, and many are still hurting today.

“There’s nothing we can do to bring Corey Turner back,” Police Chief Hofer said. “But there are things we can do moving forward to make it so other families don’t have to go through that.”

The challenge is simple: When you get into any vehicle, buckle Up. If you are a driver, put the phone down. EVERY TRIP! EVERY TIME!
